Chapter 6 ends with the comment that little by little they began regaining skills that technology had taken from them. Eric and Mary have been so accustomed to having the privilege of storing food in a refrigerator that it never occurred that there would be alternatives. Just because they choose not to use electricity, it does not mean that they must go without saving and storing food. As I mentioned in the previous post, its beginning to occur to Mary and Eric that they can still try and make things easy on themselves while respecting the values of this culture. They do not have to go without in order to fit into this lifestyle. This way of life is not about depriving one’s self of conveniences, but rather not letting technology rule your life.

I really like your last line, I think it really sums up one of the things that this book has taught me. These people aren't constantly suffering, they choose to live their lives this way, and many times, are happier for it.
i agree with not letting technology control your life but since WE DO have refrigerators we don't have to worry about those things. Technology I think does more good than bad.
I kept thinking about what they could make without having to use a fridge. I was wondering, did they have peanuts? Because I would just eat peanut butter sandwiches for my meals. And, after reading about them killing that chicken I would be strictly vegetarian!I think it would be nice to have fresh fruits and vegetables all the time. I don't know why they had such a problem with the meals and cooking and refrigeration!
